Donkaidee village in Thailand is the main producer of Bencharong – a form of polychrome enamelled porcelain tableware, which has been practiced for more than two hundred years. The technique of drawing intricate patterns has been passed on from generation to generation. Even today, expert craftsmen devote their entire lives to the practice of an almost unobtainable skill.
In order to bring this precious technique back to the domestic context again, I decided to keep only gold hand-painting pattern, which is still painted by the local craftsmen onto my design.
